Endometriosis is a relatively common gynecologic condition. It is usually diagnosed in young women of reproductive age and appears as endometrial tissue outside the endometrial cavity.
Usual sites of endometriosis are located in the female pelvis such as the ovaries , fallopian tubes, the ligaments of the uterus or the peritoneum.
Its origins are not clear, but risk factors may have genetic, immune or endocrine backround. Endometriosis can be often be diagnosed in women with little or no symptoms.

First step
The first step for proper diagnosis is understanding the symptoms, their time of appearance and how they change through time. The physician usually suspects endometriosis after a complete consultation.
Tansvaginal unltrasound, computer tomography (CT) as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be very helpfull but usually the final diagnosis is made through diagnostic laparoscopy.
What would the best solution be?
Usually the best option for women with endometriosis is a combined pharmaceutical as well as surgical treatment. Surgical treatment is done most through laparoscopy.
